After eight memorable years on Kaua‘i, we relocated to Taos to find our next creative inspiration. It has been all of that and more—truly a remarkable location for an artist. Cher McMacken (808) 651-4508 firstname.lastname@example.org Taos Open Studios Tour, Labor Day weekend

My first “brush” with oil painting came at age 14, when my neighbor offered lessons for one dollar. She painted on canvas. I painted on pieces of old, pull-down window shades
A second opportunity happened in Melbourne, Australia at the end of a fourteen-year, seven-country tour of duty in the Foreign Service. There, at the Chisholm Institute of Technology, I received excellent preparation, training and experience for creating a career as a professional artist. Then, back to the Pacific Northwest and a satisfying 17-year stretch as a mural artist (as Cher Ultican) in Portland and Seattle. In 2008, my high school sweetheart and I were reunited then married on the beach in Hanalei, Kaua‘i.
But it inspired me to go on and become a teacher, although majoring in English was my practical, get-a-job course. Thankfully, my first job was teaching Art and English in Seattle’s Shoreline district.
In addition to the Taos Artist Collective, I am represented by Palms Gallery, Koloa, Kaua‘i, and Cane Field Gallery at Kilohana, Lihue, Kaua‘i. My work can be found in collections in the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Europe.
